HAND-PRINTED TEE’S

Monday, July 11th, 2011

For those that know, the art of screen printing is a highly skilled one. From start to finish everything has to be done with precision. From the artwork, to exposing, to actual printing, everything has to be handled with care. I am proud to say that I got a degree in it, as here at The Ugly Kids Club we stay true to real art and keep our skills in check.

Just before the end of the year I did a limited run of t-shirts which were hand-printed. Even the illustration was done by hand. Rubylith anyone? Old schoolers and screen printers know. For those that missed out, missed out. I printed 15 of these “Wealthy Hearts” t-shirts. I believe if any brand is gonna do a limited number of t-shirts, they should hand-print it themselves. Long gone are the days of limited edition tee’s (Bape Days), but it never hurts once in a while to do a limited run. Remember to look out for any updates we have of limited hand-printed tee’s.

Following up on everything UKC, here is a post related to our academic side of things. At the end of November/December I was shortlisted by The Wallpaper History Society on a wallpaper competition at my uni. Only six candidates were shortlisted to showcase their wallpapers to win an internship. Unfortunately on the day of the exhibition I didn’t have my camera in my hands, because I was too busy drinking the free wine (I’m not an alcoholic btw, but you can’t turn down free alcohol).

But here are some shots of the ‘behind the scenes’ exhibition set-up. Everyone loves a bit of that…

I didn’t get the internship in the end… because I told the organisers to give someone else a chance for once. But anyways, there’s a lesson to be learnt here. Red wine turns your lips purple, and drink it responsibly. It can mess you up.

UKC X ADIDAS X LIONEL MESSI

Going back to where we left off, sometime round September last year we find The Ugly Kids doing what we do best. If you can remember that far back, Lionel Messi came to Brick Lane for an Adidas campaign, promoting his new football boots. Yes. We know. Lionel Messi… in Brick Lane. Of all places. Check the video if you don’t believe me.

On call for artwork for adidas, was yours truly The Ugly Kids Club. This. Is. How. We. Do….
